Eat Breakfast to Lose Weight

"Breakfast is the most important meal of the day." You've probably heard that line a thousand times before, but its just as important as ever - and yet many people still skip breakfast, without realizing the great benefits it has to your health and weight.

When you don't eat breakfast your body goes into famine mode. Your metabolism slows throughout the day, for every hour you don't eat. Eventually, that big meal you ate during lunch will turn mostly into fat. If you eat breakfast your body will burn most of your calories throughout the day instead of storing them.

The most common reason why people skip breakfast is that they don't have enough time to sit down and eat. If that it was is keeping you from eating breakfast you can always try breakfast bars. Many new breakfast bars have similar benefits to eating a full breakfast, and can save you time in the morning.

Whatever you do, try not to skip that all important meal in the morning. It is so tempting to rush out the door, but its one of the easiest and most effective ways to boost your metabolism and keep you energized through out the day.

Noooo , when you dont eat breakfast you slow your metabolism down. So possibly, in the long run you will gain a few extra pounds. Also, because you'll get hungry later and eat double in the evening!

I have a Friend (Rick) who is now eating 5 meals a day at 7am 10,1, 4,and 7pm instead of his usual 2 and is losing weight he started out at 422.5 and in his 1st week of diet and exercise 3 times a week has already shed 6 lbs and a few inches and says he feels better .

I always skipped my breakfast. As a college student, I dont have time for my breakfast (wake up late :) ). However, by doing that, I even not gaining any extra pound and that keeps me skinny. :(

I would say it's better to eat double breakfast than big supper...
Skip: I don't think that's the reason. You had problems with weight before? I think your metabolism is very fast and even if you skip breakfast and eat more later you won't gain extra weight (it's veeery common problem among body-builders)

Skipping breakfast will end up eating more in your lunch. And you will gain weight even faster. Take small amount such as cereal, oats or sandwiches. This is a great starter meal.

Even if I don't have time to sit down for breakfast, I always make sure I eat something. Whether it's a snack pack or a granola bar -- I think its better to start your day with something on your stomach rather than nothing!

What you said is correct. Breakfast is important. Breakfast -> Lunch -> Dinner, that's the order. You must eat more during breakfast, than eat lesser during lunch, and eat even lesser during dinner. When your metabolism rate is high, eat a lot of food.

Breakfast indeed is the most important meal of the day. But personally, I don't really agree on the idea of replacing real food with a so called 'breakfast bar'. Why? Real food like grains, eggs and sausages are still better, fresher and healthier. Breakfast bars are just a temporary replacement and should never be eaten always. Real breakfast is good for your heart, increases metabolism and more. This is very true. Many people skip breakfast, in order to "save calories", so they can eat more for dinner and lunch. This just results in more calories being eaten later in the day, and a person's body won't be able to burn them off before going to sleep. These extra calories are then converted into body fat. So, a breakfast should definately be eaten every day in order to promote weight loss.

I never could work out how people don't eat breakfast. My husband doesn't - he just has a mars bar at about 10am. Me? I can't leave the house without filling myself up with a nice bowl of cereal. If I didn't I'd just eat junk food until lunch time.

I always skip my breakfast during my college day. I have no time because I always spent time to sleep till the last minute. I am still ok for a few years because I was young!But few years later, I start to grow fat even though I eat less, and start to get health problem. Now that I'm on an official diet/exercise plan, it's illegal for me to skip breakfast. Hah. But seriously, skipping breakfast completely obliterates your metabolism for the day. It boosts energy while increasing metabolism for burning those calories. Without it, you're going to be sluggish and more likely to keep pounds. No bueno.

If you skip, you'll feel really hungry at night, and you'll have strong desire for any food you've tried to avoid during your dieting program. I'm not totally convinced that just by eating breakfast you will lose weight. My reasoning is most of the breakfast food on the market is pure sugar or other wise unhealthy. I've found that the most effective way to utilize the breakfast meal to lose weight is to make it not only healthy, but but don't make it a 'meal'. Snacking on protein and granola bars doubled up with some fruit and veggy snacks throughout your day is a very effective technique. This keeps food in your stomach so you don't 'feel' hungry, and your not as likely to eat more than your body needs. When it comes time for dinner in the evening you will not eat as much either. This lets you eat what you want for dinner and still lose weight.

I think this information is useful, but it can also be misleading. There are other great ways to lose weight. You could have one big meal at the end of the day, which is called the warrior diet. I know someone who does this (along with a protein shake in the morning) and he looks great, even though he is 50 and people normally "have their metabolism slow".

That's a very good advice! I, personally, like to jog too after breakfast. Excercising in the morning after having had a delicious and complete breakfast always makes me feel strong and energized throughout the day. Just be very careful with the roads if you want to do like me: Most of the streets in my neighbourhood are cracked, and have caused me to trip a few times. Try to stay away from other houses driveways, as they tend to be the most cracked zone.
